PAWS (1997) ** Another talking animal movie. But this time they explain the technology that makes such a thing possible. Really. Also dubious step-parent movie, lost fortune film, and boy meets girl. Clichés abound, but are treated well. Billy Connolly steals the show, as a mere voice, but it's far from the first show he's stolen and so that should seem more a commendation than an indictment. I caught myself figuring some things to be unrealistic (the unnecessary code, etc.), working forward from the premise that the dog was issuing orders, in complete sentences replete with predicate nominatives. As if a dog smart enough to talk wouldn't take it all a step further, and revolutionize diction and syntax.
