NATIONAL LAMPOON'S LOADED WEAPON 1 (1993) ** Unless you're more inspired than they are, there's only so much you can say about a movie like this. It's reasonably funny with some regularity, it's in the dubious taste you'd expect considering the source, and there are a lot worse ways to spend your time. Emilio Estevez understands what's funny about machismo, and his buddy chemistry with Samuel L. Jackson is real. Numerous familiar faces descend to elevate the proceedings, including Tim Curry, Bruce Willis, Whoopi Goldberg, Kathy Ireland, William Shatner, Jon Lovitz, etc. Frank McRae is best, with his brilliant impression of Screamin' Jay Hawkins. They weren't shooting for high art, everyone looks like they're havin' fun, and the checks didn't bounce. So it worked, again.
