THE MONEY PIT (1986) 1/2* It's amazing that people get paid for stuff like this. I don't mean that entirely in a bad way. There are certainly worse things to get paid for. Tom Hanks and Shelley Long mean no harm, in fact it's difficult to ascertain any intent at all. To make you laugh I guess, with lame and endless sight gags which invariably go on long after you would have stopped laughing if it had been funny. Alexander Godunov is more amusing as the talented egomaniac. How can Tom and Shelley make these characters (entertainment lawyer leaning on his clients for self-definition, classical violinist) so bland? How could the writers? How could the director allow all it to be? It's a dumb film about some boring people matched with a house so enraged that it gives them something to do.
