GOD'S LITTLE ACRE (1958) *1/2 Kind of like something Tennessee Williams might have come up with, if he didn't know how to put a plot together. High drama and low comedy, but a cacophony of incongruous parts looking bewildered by their surroundings. Buddy Hackett is somewhat funny, Jack Lord is a little bit intense, and lusty Tina Louise is already married to a desert island. Robert Ryan is entirely sympathetic as a kinder, gentler, feebler Big Daddy, but the elements leading to his confusion aren't nearly as disconcerting as the cinematic imbalance blowing around the picture like a weathervane. The film's only consistency is the uniform inability of the cast to approximate anything resembling an authentic southern accent.
