GHOST DAD (1990) * The mid ‘70s collaborations between Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby never reflected much of Poitier's dignity, but they were a lot of fun. This doesn't suggest any of Poitier's many talents, and is rarely funny in the slightest. When it is a little bit funny, it's because Cosby wrinkles his rubbery face so much, and looks like such a doofus. Not much, considering the principals. It's not that bad of a premise, but used more as a corkboard for Cosby to walk around trying to be silly. Aimed squarely as the conservative revival in America , even here the film hedges its bets by denouncing Republican materialism and greed. All the while, Cosby is dead and all he can think about is committing insurance fraud.
