FROSTY THE SNOWMAN (1969) ** I've never been into the Cult of Frosty, but I know a lot of smart people who have. Yeah, Jimmy Durante's ultracool, and there's a simplicity about it that's very appealing. Frosty's heroic in the self-effacing manner of a war hero, the little girl is strong, and the song remains the same (every damn time they play it). I think it's the animation that I like most, the way there's a focal focus backed by minimalism. Just a few lines of counterpoint, or collective rhythm. It's all very artsy for an unpretentious comic book type film, I guess. And I really like the depiction of a wise and omnipotent Santa Claus presiding over it all. Make sure your kids get a chance, some people really take to it.
