CHICKEN RUN (2000) ** They should give vouchers to the audience-for a free session with McShrink-just in case anyone identifies with any of the characters. Any of the characters. Why can't marketing ever be appropriate? Those who would willingly choose to spend more than an hour watching claymation chickens attempting to fly, or who would intentionally eavesdrop on their conversations, will be enchanted. So, too, will technicians who don't particularly care whether or not their work is entertaining, so long as it is good. In that limited sense that claymation can be good without being entertaining, and in the even more limited one in which strict technicians can be enchanted. It may benefit by the contrast with what went before, but the revolution scene really is pretty funny. I just wonder what the point was, from anyone's perspective, of hiring big league talent like Mel Gibson and Miranda Richardson to be the voices of claymation chickens. If it's any consolation to the actors, they're hardly noticeable.
