OCTOPUSSY (1983) **1/2 Actually, Roger Moore was a pretty good James Bond. He shows a deft touch with his best lines here, enough to inspire the wish that this team would have made a satirical vampire flick. That's good. Of course the erstewhile Soviet Union was right in denouncing the West as decadent, how else do you explain £400,000 for an egg? On the other hand, who's desperately trying to rip off the proceeds? Communists in stretch limos working for the Proletariat at the same time Reagan advanced global peace and human rights by training, funding, and arming psychotic fascist mercenaries...who was wondering the other day about the death of idealism? Seeing Indian tennis legend Vijay Amritraj fend off the bad guys with backhands was a treat but surely they could have given him a more dignified demise than being sliced to bits by a razor-laden yo-yo! Great title, but it looked like a lot more than eight to me.
