NOTTING HILL (1999) ** The main problem with this film, not that there aren't many to complement it, is that Julia Roberts is just not believable as a major movie star. Librarian maybe, handsome construction worker's girlfriend sure, cruise ship activities coordinator....pushing it. Great world beloved actress-no way! She doesn't have it in her. Hugh Grant is very deliberate, very confused, very English...in other words he's the same as he always is. I happen to find his schtick somewhat appealing, and fairly amusing, and so when he goes on about being a writer for "Horse & Hound" magazine my glee was genuine, and immense. Hugh Bonneville got a lot of press for being the whacky roommate, but look closely at Henry Goodman as the concierge at the Ritz, his facial expressions are tremendous. Best part of the movie, except for maybe the final "Horse & Hound" line.
