MEET THE PARENTS (2000) * Robert De Niro's glorious performance as a nutty CIA shrink is wasted on a script that is too ridiculous to be real, and too dull to be high satire or any measure of surrealism. Or funny. Also Ben Stiller is on screen way too much, being stupid as scripted and also unilaterally. The other actors range from not entirely terrible to ok (Owen Wilson, but as a character named Kevin Rawley?), but there's no way around Stiller on the Stiller vehicle. Which is too bad, because De Niro is great. His lines aren't all that brilliant, but he delivers them with much glory, and his facial gestures and body language are brilliant as always. Watch this one in a language that you can't understand and pretend that Stiller is just a lost milkman.
