A FINE ROMANCE (1991) ** Unambitious, beautifully acted, gentle unmoralistic Saturday afternoon faire. Marcello Mastroianni's face says a thousand wonderful things, and Julie Andrews' lets you know that a thousand wonderful things are hidden. He likes to drink a lot, which gives it some funny moments and the detox thing stays within the realms of ill-humoured bearability. The Pino Donaggio soundtrack is perfect for the mood, and might be good by itself for those who find Herb Alpert too challenging.
