WRONGFULLY ACCUSED (1998) ** Claims to be based on real events that occurred in other actual movies, but I don't think that's right. I saw those other movies, and I didn't see none of this stuff goin' on. Some would be tempted to say that the problem is merely that the talents herein involved were unable to recreate what they observed in those other films, but that's not right either. You try making a feature length film with jokes faithfully arriving at 15 second intervals. On the other hand, if the argument is that it's more difficult than entertaining, you've probably got me there. The diversity of jokes is such that it might be argued that every single film ever made is spoofed herein (and easily so if the indictment is broadened to permit the claim that this one, by merely being a film, inherently spoofs all), and by that standard the North By Northwest schtick would qualify it as the dubious "winner" (i.e., the one spoofed with a funny joke). Leslie Nielsen stars as the world's greatest violinist, and if you aren't already laughing you probably won't. Unless his appearing in a variety of clothing ensembles might render hilarity. Kelly LeBrock is enough to render the recitation of any siren or temptress myth unnecessary. They exist in unity at a certain level of the subconscious, and when she shows up they're all released. It has been said that Pandora's Box is merely a psychological phenomenon, but something that withstands the centuries and still guides the folly of man should never be characterized as "mere." And neither should Nielsen's ability to squeeze a laugh out of a barrage of jokes that aren't funny. He doesn't care if you laugh because he keeps trying, or because you think that he doesn't get it, or because he looks stupid, or because you just can't believe it, he only cares that you laugh. And I did, a couple times.
