THE WHOLE NINE YARDS (2000) ** Some say that there was a time, many years ago, when mafia murders were not a subject fit for humour, when the audience would never consider buying into the relativist criminal psyche that allows for, frequently demands, the elimination of other humans over matters as mere as money, personal glory, and convenience. Nixon, I think, did more to change all that than anyone else. The result is not edifying or artistic, but it can be amusing. Bruce Willis manages well in this sort of thing-he's always seemed a little tough, and a little funny, which are all that the roll calls for. Throw in Rosanna Arquette seeming a little bit French Canadian, and a little bit irritating-we know that evil person isn't really her, she's just acting or whatever you want to call it...it's not a very good movie, but it's not supposed to be.
