THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY (1999) ** It is Mr. Matt Damon who is talented, so very talented. Ripley, like virtually every other character in this film, is an utter asshole. The production values are quite good, the suspense is...um...suspenseful, and the Italian countryside and cities are exquisite. Some very violent scenes, but who cares who wins? There are things that are worth doing, and others that are less so. Long movies where you don't care what happens to any of the characters lack something that painting the Mona Lisa with a mustache does not.
