SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE (1978) * Obviously having Marlon Brando at the top of the credits gives a film instant credibility...unfortunately he's really boring. This film takes literally an hour covering the schlocky aspects of the Superman myth that took up two frames at most in the comic books: yeah, he was a baby on a planet that blew up and ended up on earth where he promptly lifted a tractor as a little kid. If they had to take this film to 144 minutes for some sort of contractual reason (heaven knows there is no aesthetic one), they should have had Gene Hackman in for at least twelve times the ten minutes he gets. His megalomaniacal Lex Luther is pretty funny. Hokey John Williams score would be really good for Lysol or Tidy Bowl Man commercial.
