ROMA, CITTÁ APERTA (Open City, or Rome, Open City, 1945) **1/2 It's not easy to believe that Federico Fellini had much to do with this singularly linear script, much less backing Roberto Rosselini. The acting is good across the board, and Anna Magnani throws a fit like no one the silver screen has ever seen. Besides that the Nazi's were assholes, and battled by a coalition of Catholics, Communists, and other well-intentioned folks (including gangs of good violent little kids) that had a brain in their head. Some spectacular shots across open areas.
