RIO BRAVO (1959) *** "Well you're the undertaker, Liu...go bury 'em!" John Wayne is the Godfather of the prairies. I bet he even went to Wild West Heaven instead of Movie Star Heaven. He's a bit of a sexual libertine in this one kissing another man, and also Angie Dickinson. Dean Martin never seems uncomfortably out of place, probably because of all the alcohol going around. His duets (with Ricky Nelson singing harmony) are quirkily, perfectly placed in the homestretch of the film. Claude Akins is Roscoe P. Coltrane in an earlier life.
