MR. MAGOO (1997) ** Just because a film isn't ambitious doesn't mean you don't have to do things right. Leslie Nielsen is...not perfectly cast, but you don't have to do things perfect either. He carries the part and he's fun, which is good. He strides about in an admirably consistent state of delighted confusion. The secondary acting talent definitely starts with Angus the bulldog, and after that it doesn't matter much. They move it along with reassuring regularity and Leslie keeps laughing, maybe just to remind you that you should, too. You have to habour concerns for anyone who finds this a life affirming experience, but it's definitely not as dumb as voting for Bush.
