THE KILLER SHREWS (1959) *1/2 What does Ray Kellogg get when you mix a Swedish girl, a hurricane, a couple of mad scientists, guns, martini's, and a deserted island? Um, no, the answer isn't homicidal mice. It wasn't supposed to be a trick question, it just turned out that way. They're all elements of this movie. Now do you see? You won't be as confused watching the film, that's for sure. Well, you might. I was. I mean, the shrews in question more often resemble Basenjis or Salukis or goats. But that wasn't really confusing, now that I think on it, I knew that they were supposed to be shrews. The final showdown is art for the ages, what with the heroes sneaking off in garbage bins. A metaphor for the final days of the Nixon administration, in advance. Or, no, no it's really a statement about putting troops in Iraq without properly armoured vehicles.
