ALMOST HEROES (1998) * Yeah, well, Chris Farley maybe, but everyone else in this film ain't even almost nothin'! In aesthetic, entertainment, and spiritual categories, almost a nomination for Worst Film Ever. And yet, Farley has moments-more like streams of seconds than moments-of nearly extreme hilarity. If you like Farley, if you think he's funny, and I do, a lot of the appeal must be that he is incongruous as any character. He can only be Chris, a role that subsumes any other. Now, just because that's what they teach the opposite of in acting school doesn't mean that it's wrong or no good. Let's face it, most roles are stupid anyway, so if you can be a real one, why not? And so he does. Don't blink when they ask him what he's seen in his previous explorations.
