AIRPORT 1975 (1974) ** Charlton Heston is absolutely hysterical, trying to figure out how to be manly and portray emotion simultaneously. The result is something along the lines of a musk ox making efforts at algebra, then emitting as much as as possible. He's about the only redeeming aspect of the film, well him and maybe the first scene with Norman Fell in it. There's plenty of room for a nice round of "Who's that?" if you don't enjoy the film (and really, how could you?). Myrna Loy and Gloria Swanson for the oldies, Erik Estrada for spousal abuse enthusiasts, Helen Reddy for die-hard feminists who didn't see her making fun of herself on the David Letterman Show, Jim Plunkett and Gene Washington (49ers version, not Vikings) for the Howard Cossell set, Linda Blair and Dana Andrews for occultists, Sid Caesar, you get the idea-the only problem is that none of them are doing anything interesting. Now Karen Black, she's doing some intesting stuff. It's all very hokey, but she's so weird-looking that the suspense becomes real. I mean, how can anyone look like that? No one else does. I guess that all makes it pretty passable for a '70s disaster flick.
