THE LITTLE COLONEL (1935) *1/2 Pretty lame, even considered exclusively within the Shirley Temple canon. Lionel Barrymore isn't very animated: there's nothing to set him apart from the legions of nearly competent actors that he was born to wipe out by the billions with his wake; at least until the closing minutes when he finishes with a flourish. Hattie McDaniel is consistent as always, but Nyanza Potts steals the show, particularly in the baptism scene. They should have just followed him around with the camera running, that would have been rad.
