THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON (2004) **1/2 They're trying to do two very difficult things: expose the ugly roots of Western-style capitalism, and illuminate the inner workings and triggers of a dark and ugly lonely mind. It's all on Sean Penn: he's great, they pull it all off. Which necessarily means that it's not much fun. They can't offer solutions to either, because it's not part of the story. Probably couldn't, much, anyway. You don't have to know how to stop them, to point out that the bombs are coming down.
