AGENT CODY BANKS (2003) ** Neither aspires to be nor is fine art. Aspires to be entertaining, and is to some degree. What more do you want in a movie for teenagers? It's not grotesque, nor misleading…waaal, that stuff about the CIA being a place to pick up babes and drive Ferraris probably does reach a little bit, but anyone who falls for it probably deserves whatever happens to them, and is unlikely to do much harm in any event. Angie Harmon does cartwheels and Daniel Roebuck is pretty funny as the teenage agent's dad. Wilful escapism it is, in the key of young James Bond. Nothing wrong with that, you want him to save the world or not? Frankie Muniz and Hilary Duff probably impress their peers more than they do me, but again, there's nothing wrong with them. They're not supposed to be Brando and Fonda, junior, they're supposed to be good average American kids in danger, and they're more than up to the task.
