FANTASTIC VOYAGE (1966) * Dumb voyage. Forget the argument that a submarine shrunk small enough to be injected into a human would be so dense as to fall out the subject's ass. I'm willing to believe that scientists creative enough to shrink such a thing might also be able to sidestep mere fundamentals of mass and matter. I'm slightly surprised that American intelligence would send agents off on such a mission without so much as briefing them as to where the submarine gauges are and what they measure...but at this point little can surprise me about American intelligence. The acting is bad all around, but perhaps there could have been a role for Donald Pleasance, or at least his voice, in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Raquel Welch suffers from a bad haircut and jumpsuit, but not enough to be credible as a lab assistant. Definitive proof that an absurd premise, juvenile sets, and nonsensical dialogue don't always prevent a film from being dull throughout. Oh yeah, and the atheists really were communist agents.
