LE CHARME DISCRET DE LA BOURGEOISIE (The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie,1972) **1/2 Diplomatic immunity, cocaine, terrorists, gardner priests, adultery, vomiting through limousine windows, pot smoking colonels playing war games, fine food and wine, sex on the lawn, manipulation of the legal system by those who run it, torture, impromptu wakes in restaurants, dreams within dreams, assassinations at dinner parties, mechanical bunnies, ironic triumphs of a spin doctor, the decaying sense of revolution, it's hard to get decent service anywhere and you can never order what you want. Luis Buñuel is rarely off the mark and repeatedly funny, but the analysis never punctures the epidermis, or is that the point?
