THE BIRDS (1963) *** What if all the birds decided to be on the same team, and to fly down peoples chimneys and through windows and eat them? Stranger things have happened certainly, and probably even in Bodega Bay, but not with any regularity. A couple of the shots with backdrops are really bad, but even these in some ways just accentuate the Hitchcock-strangeness. The most unbelievable part is when there's a bunch of people drinking and they're willing to leave a fully stocked bar to go check out the explosion at the gas station and hide from the birds in phone booths. Several interesting actors-Rod Taylor, Tippi Hedren, Suzanne Pleshette, Jessica Tandy.....blue-shadowed scene with rays of light speckling a yard of birds, Taylor walking through very gently, there are new rules and he's not entirely sure what they are but little pecks on the ankles don't bother him any more.
