ARIZONA DREAM (1994) ***1/2 A plot is totally superfluous when you've got great actors and a brilliant director. Emir Kusturica weaves a shimmering colorful collage of surreal and wantonly improbable scenes, isotopic two-dimensional (depth and height) characters, and grand esoteric music. Jerry Lewis and Johnny Depp are glorious, and a pairing that ensure that this film will be watched by generation after generation that thinks it doesn't get it but has sensors beneath that really do. Lili Taylor is best of all and Faye Dunaway steals the greatest scenes. The North By Northwest schtick is almost unbearably funny, the gun stuff too light-hearted to even be called dark, and the flying machine therapy works like anti-prozac.
