THE ADVENTURES OF ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE (2000) **1/2 They did a good job of melding old plot lines and current technology while maintaining the political dissonance of the original, but ultimately it's not that much more than a silly movie about a moose and a flying squirrel and some bad guys. FBI Agent Sympathy is horrible (thank you for arresting her and getting her out of the picture for awhile John Goodman; yes I know that it's the least any true Shakespearean would do), ruining almost every scene she's in which detracts from fine performances by Robert De Niro (he who was once arrested in Italy as an alleged member of the Red Brigade....surely not typecast as Fearless Leader), and Rene Russo. The guy that plays the dumb handsome prison guard (Rod Biermann) is also very funny. The dialogue, and all-important narration, maintains the cartoon spirit of the original and "Rocky's speech was so inane that (no one could) find anything to disagree with" is not only the best line of the movie, but an excellent capsulation of the Presidential campaign. Fine scene with Presidential advisors discussing moles and television, and the benefits of occasional brief Jonathan Winters injections.
